The Galilee Centre is less than 1 hour from Ottawa; 1.5 hrs from Barry’s Bay; 2 hours from Kingston. Each room features a wardrobe, reading desk and a private sink. All bathrooms/showers are shared. No ensuite rooms. Genders are located in different wings. The Centre overlooks the Ottawa River, walk to an old Grove Forest, close to Robert Simpson Park with public bathrooms. There are lots of painting subjects; forest, quaint cottages, outbuildings, pretty town, more by short drive like a waterfall. The Centre is on city sewer, not septic system. Arnprior is very close by so any extra things can be purchased quickly. All meals are prepared fresh in-house and they are able to accommodate most dietary restrictions. Meals are buffet style. Unlimited tea/coffee and bowl of fresh fruit. There is a fridge where we can store food if needed.
Charles Spratt is a nationally recognized artist, who is represented in fine galleries in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. Charles has been painting professionally for more than 35 years with more than 25 solo gallery exhibitions to date.
Charles taught watercolours and acrylics at a number of Ontario college summer schools for ten years and has given workshops across Canada. He has appeared on television on several occasions to demonstrate his talent as a painter. In 2007, along with nine nationally recognized artists representing the 10 provinces of Canada, he was invited to represent Ontario at a ten – day art symposium in Baie-Saint Paul, Que. His large acrylic, Dickinson Days, produced at that symposium, was purchased in Newfoundland during the subsequent cross-Canada exhibition. He has painted the Canadian landscape from the Rockies to Newfoundland. More recently his plein air painting trips are for the most part to Charlevoix and the Eastern Townships of Quebec and Algonquin Park and Eastern Ontario. He has won many awards for work both in watercolour and more recently in acrylics. Charles Spratt is a past president and Fellow of the Ottawa Watercolour Society (OWS). He is an elected signature member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC), the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) and the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA). His home and studio are located in the Village of Manotick within the City of Ottawa. “I believe that I am painting some of my best work these days. I will never stop looking for better ways to express my feelings in art: a philosophy that was part of every workshop I taught and remains an important part of mypainting today!” Charles Spratt |
