WHAT WE DO
A Newsletter
Four times a year, the newsletter is emailed to members. It contains news and photos of members' past and upcoming shows, workshops, sales, member websites, videos and other items of general interest. The digital copy is always available on the member’s page of the website. A print copy can be requested at an additional cost of $10 per year.
Join Us Online
Due to the pandemic, we have begun to meet online on Zoom twice a month to play, connect, learn and keep creative. ArtShare sessions are scheduled during the second week of the month. A member of ECOAA will demonstrate their painting style, skill or technique, or art tips. On the fourth Friday of every month we host an Open Studio where we come together to chat, paint or just listen to members talking about life, sharing stories and their passion for art. See the Join Us Online page for the schedule and description of each presentation and the Members Only page for the links to the online sessions.
Paint Outs
Throughout the year members get together at the home or cottage of a volunteer host whose only responsibilities are to supply morning coffee and a place to eat the lunch each participant brings along. Usually the host scouts the area for painting sites. These paint outs (or ins) usually are from 10 am to 4pm but is sometimes extended to include a potluck dinner.

Weekend Workshops - Temporarily suspended due to Covid-19.
The ECOAA sponsors four weekend workshops annually, where members get together at a resort in cottage country to paint and enjoy each other’s company. They are usually held the end of January, the end of May, the third weekend of September and the second weekend of October.
At three of the workshops, an artist, usually a member of ECOAA, is invited to do a demonstration on the Friday evening. On Saturday evening there is a critique, followed by a get-together with refreshments. Studio space is available for indoor work and painting plein air is encouraged.
September Workshops - Temporarily suspended due to Covid-19.
In September each year, ECOAA joins with our sister club – Central Ontario Art Association to hold a combined weekend with a choice of one of 4 (or 5) workshops given by top instructors. A member can also work independently. This is a social weekend, where old friends get together and new friendships are made. Saturday evening consists of a “walkabout” to view the work, followed by a wine and cheese and entertainment. In the past, “The Geneva Park Players”, a group of talented members performed with songs and amusing skits.
For many years, this weekend was held at the YMCA Geneva Park conference centre on Lake Couchiching, near Orillia. Early in 2021, the YMCA announced its intention to sell the property and so our favourite location will no longer be available. No event is being planned for 2021 due to the pandemic. The two clubs take turns organizing this event and COAA is currently researching other venues and will organize the workshops and entertainment for September 2022. Details to be advised when available.
Annual General Meeting
Traditionally, each club would hold their AGM on the September Workshop weekend. Due to the pandemic, ECOAA held our last AGM on September 20, 2020 on Zoom. We will be holding our 2021 AGM on Zoom likely in September, with the exact date to be advised. All members are invited to attend.
Become a Member
Our members include artists at various stages of competence. Many are new painters who are eager to learn, others are fulltime professionals who enjoy interacting with other artists. The membership fee is modest. The rewards are great. Join the ECOAA.
Volunteers Wecome
ECOAA runs smoothly because of the hard work put in by its volunteers. Do you have a special talent or some time to give a helping hand? Any help is appreciated, from taking notes as the secretary to assisting with exhibitions or reporting on news in your area.

- ECOAA's Annual Juried Art Exhibition. Held in various locations in Ontario, such as: Scarborough Civic Centre, Bowmanville Visual Art Centre, McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke, Shenkman Cultural Centre in Ottawa and The Belleville Library Gallery. The jury selects winners of the many awards.
- Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation. The association has a dedicated gallery space provided by the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation. Paintings are changed throughout the year. 25% of sales go to the Foundation to benefit health services.
- Mystery Of The Park Exhibition and Sale. One of the highlights of the year is the long running Mystery of The Park Exhibition and Sale held each autumn at The Visitors Centre in Algonquin Park. With great exposure and good sales since 1993, ECOAA has a long history with the Park and the Sorensen family who donate the awards. It is a great opportunity to bring Canadian Art to collectors from around the world.
