About the Fall Workshop
ECOAA members and COAA members every year always look forward to our annual "Paint , Learn and Social" weekend that marks the end of summer. The fall workshop is the combined effort of both organizations with each group alternating in the organization of this grand event that you will not want to miss. This year's fall weekend will be organized by ECOAA' s Sheila Davis and Teresa Davis. Geneva Park closed with Covid but we have carried on at Bayview Wildwood.
Each year, participants choose from professional instructors in their medium of choice; or work independently without instruction, if they prefer. The weekend includes your hotel accommodation, 3 meals a day, all snacks during the day and evening, wine and cheese party on Saturday night and a later-night party if you choose.
This is a social weekend where old friends get together and new friendships are made. There is a "walk-about" to see the works accomplished that day and to meet the other instructors. This is followed by a wine and cheese with entertainment provided by the resort, we will follow with our own music for dancing and while the skits are no more we will have an open mic! do do your thing!
If you have never been, it is now the time to come out and enjoy the fellowship of other artists from across Ontario while advancing your art skills. Let's keep this tradition going!
AS EXPECTED, PRICES KEEP GOING UP! LIFE IS SHORT, ENJOY YOURSELF.

Mark making in colour. Exploring the marks we can use to make trees, fields, mountains and water in motion; a landscape. Making these marks with ease and confidence; producing beautiful and descriptive marks. Avoiding the contrived to make the marks appear natural. Learning to make these creative marks fast and loose. Using colour to control focus, overall design, and the emphasis of each stroke within the painting. An experienced instructor Peter is in high demand.
About Peter John Reid, AOCA
I was born in Plymouth, England on a beautiful sunny day just a few years ago, immigrated to Canada in 1964 (well maybe more than few years) and was raised in north Toronto, rural at first gradually shifting to urban. For the past thirty-some years I have resided in rural Grey County in the heart of Niagara Escarpment country, which has a wealth of beautiful landscapes. I currently live on an idyllic 4-acre wooded property with my partner, visual artist, writer and yoga instructor Bonnie Gardiner.
The creative process has been strong throughout my life - from the time I could first hold a crayon. In-class art every Friday was the highlight of my week in public school. I then attended C.W. Jeffries in North York, a high school with a dedicated arts program, followed by six years of post secondary schooling ending at the Ontario College of Art, now OCAD U.
Like some famous Canadian painters you may have heard of, I worked in the commercial art field, raising a family and paying the bills, while developing and exploring my craft. I am an avid painter working mostly in acrylics although on occasion I work in oils, water colour and cold wax (similar to encaustics). My paintings are in a number of galleries in Ontario and Nova Scotia and I can be found on the internet by googling my name - or 'good looking guys'. I am also a closet sculptor, working in metal, concrete and wood; however the sculpting I do only for myself.
Striving always to improve my craft has led me to teach. Although reluctant at first, I started a painting group, Studio Twenty, where artists or artist-wanna-be's could come to paint and where I shared some tidbits of information on how to paint. This led to a greater understanding of how to teach what I know and to my authoring three books on how to paint in acrylics, along with multiple paid and free u-tube videos. The videos, books and my teaching have become a successful and enjoyable part of my life. Studio XX has developed into a group of talented painters who have also raised more than $30,000 for our community and local charities through donated paintings.
My partner Bonnie Gardiner is also a painter which makes life a little easier, as being a visual artist becomes a way of life - even when you're not painting you are thinking about painting, or photographing images for your next project waving each other to get out of the picture, or doing the business side of the art. We have canvases in various stages of completion on review about the house; the art is forever changing on our walls. I am represented currently by 11 galleries across Canada.
Peter prefers that students have multiple smaller canvas' to work on.
A reference photo will be provided but you may bring your own as well.

SUPPLY LIST FOR PETER JOHN REID
Gord Jones SCA CSPWC– Watercolour $600
Explore traditional and experimental techniques in watercolour painting and learn by demonstration, individual attention, and critique. You will explore the technique of painting loose while focusing on what is important within the picture plane for maximum impact. There will be solid instruction in preparatory drawing, value patterns, colour mixing, theory, and composition. Working from a photographic source, we will simplify the design with a quick value sketch then continue to a finished watercolour. Prepare to paint two complete works each day with assistance and constructive group critique.https://white-pine-studio.square.site/
About Gord
The surrounding landscape in the Haliburton Highlands, Ontario has been a great source of inspiration for most of Gord`s paintings. He loves how watercolour allows him to transfer the light and shadow from his photographs to his paintings. His approach is to interpret the essence of his chosen subject rather than producing detailed likenesses of actual places.
Gord has sought direction throughout his artistic career from many of Canada’s most loved watercolourists. He has always found visual communication speaks clearest, even though his interpretations leave room for the viewer to explore and most importantly, participate in the conversation.
Gord is an elected member of the CSPWC (Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour), The SCA (Society of Canadian Artists), and enjoys memberships in the Niagara Frontier Watercolour Society, The Haliburton Arts Council, the Rails End Gallery, and is an Ontario representative of the International Watercolour Society. Gord is a certified Adult Educator.
